Certification Service
*xware offers hardware vendors to run the certification test and to
publish the server on the hardware certification list. There are three
packages available which offer a certification for a fixed price.
Tasks during a hardware certification
- Server Family Check
A certification is done for a complete server family. That means, that only one certification run
on the "biggest" system (maximum number of processors, cores and threads) is required to get the
certification for all family members. Defining the server family and identifying all family members
is therefore the first task during a certification.
The price for a certification will include all family members, regardless how many servers will
be listed in the hardware list. The vendor can choose which family members should be listed on www.saponsolaris.com.
- Sun HCL Check
A prerequisite for the SAP hardware certification is the listing of the specific hardware
in the Sun Hardware Compatibility List. Therefore the next step is to check for all members
of the server family, whether they are coverd by the Sun HCL.
- Execution of the Benchmark
The most demanding step is the execution of the performance test. This includes the setup
of a SAP system, installation of the benchmark tools and the execution, analysis and tuning of
the benchmark. If *xware is doing this step, we will use a prepared and tuned setup,
using SAP ECC 6.0 with MaxDB or Oracle. The tuning of the benchmark on the specifc hardware can
be done only up to a certain level. A "fine tuning" can not be part of a fixed price package.
- Validation of Benchmark results
The benchmark run will create a set of data that must be checked for consistency and whether all
SAP Standard Application benchmark rules are fulfilled.
- Entry in the hardware certification list
As a result of the certification procedure, the hardware vendor will receive
a "hardware certification sheet" and the server (or all servers belonging to
the server family) will be listed on www.saponsolaris.com. We will try to keep this
list as uptodate as possible. Therefore, if there are changes like new servers within
a certified server family, please get in contact with us so that we can update the
web page. This will cause no additional costs.

Prerequisites
If *xware should run the benchmark, we will use a prepared setup with SAP ECC 6.0 and MaxDB or Oracle.
We need access to the system with the following configuration:
- Server with Solaris 10 Update 2 (or higher) already installed
- Number of CPUs (processors/cores/threads) as required for certification
("biggest system").
- At least 4 GB memory per core
- At least 200 GB disk space, distributed on several disks
- root access to this server with the posibility to do a reboot
- In addition to the server, a benchmark driver is required. This can be a small
system running Solaris x64 or Linux. A private network connection between
driver and server is needed.
- A valid SAP license must be provided by the hardware vendor!
