Answers

Servers with which processor types can be certified?
All servers using AMD Opteron or Intel XEON 64 bit can be certified. Intel Itanium architecture is not supported.

How can a server be certified if it is sold by more than one company?
If both companies agree, then only one test needs to be performed. However two web entries are required, one for each company.

What does the term "hardware certification" mean exactly?
The term "certification" on this website stands for "Certification of a specific server hardware to run SAP Solutions on Solaris x64". There are other "certifications" that must be seperated from this one:
  • Sun HCL
The listing in the Sun Hardware Compatibility List (HCL) is also called "hardware certification". It is a prerequisite for the SAP hardware certification.
  • SAP Standard Application Benchmark certification
SAP certifies and publishes benchmarks. A certified benchmark is not required for hardware certification.

What do I have to do as a customer who wants to run SAP software on the Solaris x64 platform?
If you want to run a productive SAP system on Solaris x64, there are two things you have to note:
  • You can only use hardware that is listed on this website.
  • You have to have a Solaris Service Plan which is available from Sun.

  •
Does this website deal with Solaris on SPARC?
No!
The hardware certification procedure only applies to Solaris x64 on Intel or AMD architectures.

What is *xware's part in the platform certification?
*xware edv-beratung gmbh is a company located in Östringen, Germany, with many years of experience in the area of SAP platform provisioning and performance. *xware runs the certification tests on behalf of Sun and in close cooperation with SAP. Further more, *xware maintains this website and the list of certified hardware.

Will the benchmark that was run during the certification be published somewhere?
The hardware vendor can choose whether the benchmark should be published or not:
  • If no publication is wanted, the results will be checked by *xware. There will be no benchmark certification from SAP and therefore no publication anywhere.
  • If the publication is requested, the benchmark will be submitted to SAP for benchmark certification. The result will be published on www.sap.com/benchmark.
